And just like that, day one of AIBC’s Balkans Summit came and went with success. It is always a heartfelt pleasure to see months of diligent preparation come to fruition, and today was no different. Taking place in beautiful Belgrade, the location was handpicked for the Serbian capital’s enterprising traditions towards IT, business and innovative tech.

The Convergence: Cryptocurrencies and Virtual Spaces

Today’s conference was divided into two.  The first series of talks between 9:30am and 11:50am focused on decentralized finance (DeFi) and crypto payments.  It commenced with a riveting address by Liberland President Vít Jedlička on the advantages of decentralized governments. The discussion shed further light on the convergence of business and crypto payments, with talks from thought leaders the like of Adam Waldenberg, Dr. Alina Kornienko and Filip Cristian.

Traditional banks are not open on the weekend, but crypto never closes. This is important for investors – Filip Cristian, CEO of FutureCoin.

By the middle of the day, the spotlight fell on Web3 development and the Metaverse. Web3 presents us with the opportunity to visualise a decentralised, cybersecure webspace. The Metaverse is similarly ripe with potential.

“What’s not possible in the metaverse?” asks Klemen Gradisar, Co-Founder of Ballies. “Maybe right now it is not possible to mine gold, but sometime in the future through VR you will be able to experience that. That is why education will actually be quite important for Web3 and the Metaverse”.

Tomorrow’s conferences are just as tightly packed with thought-provoking panels. Click here to have a look at the agenda.

Lets Mingle and Dine

The evening brings with it the exciting opportunity to delve deeper into the ideas explored on stage with the experts. Drinks shall be had from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the Buzz Bar – Holiday Inn, Belgrade to celebrate an incredible first day, followed by dinner at Central Pub.

Award Winner DeepMine: Best Gamefi Project of the year.

Activities like these work wonders towards bridging the gap between investor and investee. At the same time, yesterday’s tour around the city provided us with the opportunity to celebrate Belgrade’s rich, Serbian culture. In our haste to explore the infinite possibilities of the Metaverse, may we remain passionate about the multicoloured traditions of the real world.

Particularly noteworthy was yesterday’s awards ceremony. We heartily congratulate each of the AIBC Balkans Awards winners: Huobi Global (Best Crypto Exchange of the year), DeepMine (Best Gamefi Project of the year) and UniGrid (Best Blockchain Solutions). The awards were sponsored by Spinthon, Ikigai Ventures and iWinBACK respectively. Special thanks goes to BetConstruct, our main sponsor for the entire event.

All in all, it has been an astounding pleasure to host our very first summit in the Balkans. We are simultaneously looking forward to the next two days as well as hosting future summits in stunning Serbia.

Raising €19,000 for charity!

As part of yesterday’s awards night, an auction has been held with the aim of raising funds for SiGMA Foundation, the group’s charitable arm. We are ecstatic to announce our success, namely in the raising of the grand sum of €19,000! Some notable pieces were Derek Mason’s Heraldic, a painting symbolising Belgrade’s rising status as a gaming hub, and Innovation, another oil on canvas. They went for €10,000 and €5,000 respectively, each following a round of enthusiastic bidding.

A number of charity projects are currently in the pipeline , including a solar power system intended to benefit remote locations in the Philippines, the construction of a primary school in Ethiopia, and a Malta-based project that hopes to address loneliness.
