reports DDoS attack

Category: Blockchain Crypto shut down by hackers demanding an undisclosed amount of Bitcoin as ransom

Last night,, a website offering support on Bitcoin development and a provider of open source material has been the target of a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. The website was down for several hours but is currently accessible again. An undisclosed amount of Bitcoin was demanded for ransom; however it was not revealed whether or not the operators obliged.

Similar attacks have occurred against Binance, OKEx and Bitfinex. Whether there is a direct connection of the attacks remains unclear, though even had been a target before during December. Despite all cases being connected to the blockchain industry, is an odd one out, as the site does not hold any user data to be valuable to hackers.

CobraTwitterCøbra, as the site owner calls himself in public, stated to the Coin Telegraph that there is not much a victim can do against this type of attack. “Back in the day, you could”, but “now they just down you at will. […] You go down and stay down until they leave you alone.” He also posted a frustrated tweet in the evening.

Just a week before the attacks, a UK court ruled that the site must delete all links to the Bitcoin white paper, due to copyright issues.
