Troy Hector talks about digital evolution of education technology

Troy Hector, Founder and CEO of Trident Digital Enterprises, emphasized the critical role digital solutions play in shaping the future of education. 

In Hector’s keynote speech at the SiGMA Africa held at South Africa, he underscored the urgency for innovative approaches to address existing challenges and prepare for future disruptions. 

“It is imperative that we do appreciate that education is a fundamental of most economies, most societies, and if there’s anything wrong in that particular value chain, it could have an adverse impact on how your economy grows, how your society develops, and also how you compete internationally as well,” Hector said while emphasizing the pivotal role education plays in societal progress. 

The challenges brought by Covid-19

Reflecting on the unprecedented challenges brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hector lamented the shortcomings of policymakers, regulators, and officials in effectively managing the crisis, particularly in the realm of education.  

“The greatest impact really was on the education sector,” he noted, highlighting the severe disruptions endured by students worldwide during prolonged school closures. 

“The question is — what are we planning to do from an education standpoint?” Hector posed, advocating for the integration of digital technologies as a potential solution to mitigate the adverse effects of future crises. 

Edutech solution

Hector outlined the fundamental components of an Edutech solution, emphasizing the importance of digitizing educational content, implementing learner management systems for efficient classroom administration, leveraging cloud technologies, and ensuring reliable connectivity and access to smart devices.  

However, Hector acknowledged the challenges posed by infrastructural limitations, particularly in regions with inadequate access to electricity, connectivity, and digital devices.  

Despite these obstacles, he proposed a vision where technology enables universal access to quality education, transcending geographical boundaries. 

The role of emerging technology

Hector also explained the transformative potential of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, and blockchain in reshaping education delivery and fostering innovation. 

Highlighting the importance of adapting to the evolving technological landscape, Hector urged stakeholders in the education sector to embrace digital transformation as an opportunity to reimagine traditional models of education delivery.  

He envisioned a future where blockchain-based platforms and virtual reality facilitate personalized and immersive learning experiences, transcending the limitations of conventional classroom settings.

Moreover, Hector emphasized the need for a holistic approach to digital transformation, focusing not only on technological advancements but also on creating value for students, educators, and stakeholders.  

He urged policymakers, educators, and parents to explore innovative strategies and leverage emerging technologies to redefine the future of education in a rapidly evolving world.
