Electroneum expands global mobile top-ups to 140+ countries; earning ETN on AnyTask is now way more appealing

For the first time in cryptocurrency history a blockchain start-up is working directly with a mobile network operator

UK-based startup Electroneum was launched with a vision to change the lives of billions with a mobile-based cryptocurrency that is easy to use and unbound by geographical restrictions while enabling them to earn more and live better via the fairest freelancer platform in existence.

The reach is unparalleled as Electroneum mobile top-ups are now available in over 140 countries, reaching nearly 4 billion mobile phone users via 600 mobile network operators (MNOs).

The decision to expand the mobile top-up service comes after initial testing periods in South Africa, the first country where Electroneum launched via The Unlimited, as well as Turkey, Brazil, Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria. Electroneum has reported that they have seen over $60,000 USD of ETN to airtime top ups taking place in these countries.

Electroneum and Cellcard in Cambodia

For the first time in cryptocurrency history, including Bitcoin, a blockchain start-up is working directly with a mobile network operator. As a result of their agreement, the M1 Electroneum crypto smartphones that Cellcard of Cambodia ordered initially flew off the shelves in just under two hours.

Cambodia’s fastest-growing and most progressive mobile network operator, Cellcard, and Electroneum announced on 31 January their agreement to enable airtime and data top-ups with ETN.

“Cellcard ordered 250 M1 smartphones from us based on the number of our mobile devices they estimated would be sold in one month,” said Electroneum Head of Mobile Development Nigel Pooley. “They based their M1 forecast on the sales statistics of other brands.”

Mr. Pooley went on to say, “Cellcard executives are pleasantly surprised to see the M1 smartphone fly off the shelves within two hours and have immediately placed a new order to increase their stock of our crypto phone vastly.”

Mobile top-ups for AnyTask sellers

Two weeks ago, Electroneum announced the launch of AnyTask.com, a global freelance platform that has come to disrupt the industry by enabling people to access the worldwide digital economy without requiring a bank account. It is the fairest freelance marketplace because it does not charge sellers of tasks any fees, unlike other related platforms.

“For the first time ever, people have access to a freelance platform that focuses on bringing greater prosperity to developing countries and, more particularly, to the hundreds of millions who are unbanked and living in poverty but own a smartphone,” said Electroneum CEO and Founder Richard Ells. 

“AnyTask was created as a way for people in developing countries to purchase tasks without ever touching crypto. They pay with a traditional debit or credit card, and the seller receives payment via remittance in ETN.”

Mr. Ells went on to state that AnyTask has been a significant success in making Electroneum’s current priority the implementation of more ways for ETN users to make use of their ETN.

“By 23 February, nearly 102,000 people had signed up to the AnyTask platform. Nearly 19,000 of them signed up as sellers of tasks, and over 1,200 tasks had been listed,” said Richard Ells.

Insight into the mobile phone industry

Accessing the consumer Internet economy via mobile devices is higher than ever, the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) said in their 2019 mobile economy report.

Globally, at least one instant in-app mobile top-up takes place every second, a statistic that highlights the demand there is for airtime and data top-ups around the world, the GSMA added.

The number of people paying for top-ups with cryptocurrency is growing quickly and currently stands at nearly 200,000 worldwide. 

In general, the mobile phone industry is growing fast. “By the end of 2018, 5.1 billion people around the world had subscribed to mobile services, accounting for 67% of the global population,” the GSMA added. 

They expect that by the end of 2025, 5.8 billion people will have subscribed to mobile services, generating US$3.9 trillion of economic value, equivalent to 4.6% of the GDP. Of the 710 million first-time subscribers in the next seven years, 50% will come from the Asia Pacific region, 25% more from Sub-Saharan Africa.
